Greetings and Happy New Year!
Welcome back to those of you who had the summer off, and thank you to those of you who worked hard this summer to get our facilities and grounds ready for everyone to come back!
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2017-18 school year as your new Interim Superintendent. I’m thrilled to be serving CHUSD in this capacity for the school year, and I look forward to working with you to serve our students and our communities. My goal is to bring us together to optimize the great work that is going on in our district.
We have some hurdles to work through together this year. Our budget situation is still dire, and we need to really tighten our belts and maximize the dollars we do have. Student attendance drives our income, so I’m asking everyone to do everything you can to get our students to school and in their seats every day. It also helps when we come to work every day and we can minimize sub costs.
This year you will also hear me talk a lot about teamwork, diversity and inclusion. When we build a culture where everyone feels welcome and supported, we all win. I want all of you to know that I am here to support your work, and that whatever your job in CHUSD, you are an important part of the team. Our job is to see every single child graduate prepared for the world. Every child we keep in school and get across the line is a success, and everyone has a part in getting them there. This is how we serve our students and families. I like to remind people that we are all here to make good things happen for other people!
I like to be out and about and interactive. I’ve started a Twitter feed to show off the great things I see while I am visiting our programs. If you don’t already have a Twitter account, I urge you to get one, and to follow me @GoCHUSD. I’d also like to post things you send me, like the beautiful picture of Ranferi’s new baby girl! So email or text me things to share! Also, if your site or program has a Twitter, let me know so I can repost and share your tweets as well! When you see me, please take a moment to say hi! Don’t be shy to talk to me! I’m a people person, and I’d love to chat with you!
Our Welcome Back is on August 8th at CHS Auditorium. Breakfast is at 7:30, and we need everyone seated and ready to start in the theater by 7:50. (Yes, I’d like everyone, district wide to be there!) We’ll get everyone off to training or their job sites at 8:30. We want everyone back at 11:00 for lunch. Don’t miss it- Aida will be making her famous salsa for everyone! Lunch will be in the hub, and outdoors on the patio, and I encourage everyone to stay and enjoy time with your colleagues!

Let’s work together to make this a great year! Let’s leave last year behind us, and go forward with great intentions and really focus on positivity, communication and teamwork. Together, we actually can do anything—
There is no “I” in team, but there is a “U” in CHUSD.
Let’s work to be truly UNIFIED!
Watch the website for updates on trainings and events, and don’t forget to check out @GoCHUSD! See you all soon!
