Framework for the Future

What IS the Framework for the Future?

What does it actually mean? 🧡🖤

You may have heard us talking about CHUSD’s Framework for the Future—but this isn’t simply another plan or document.

It is our shared vision for the educational experience we want every CHUSD student to have.

The Framework brings together what we heard from students, staff, families, and community members and gives us a clearer, more unified direction for the years ahead. It builds on the work already happening throughout CHUSD while helping us answer an important question:

What do we want every student to know, experience, and become because they attended CHUSD?

Throughout the year, we’re going to take you inside the Framework and break down what it means—from our Portrait of a Learner to the way we envision teaching, learning, relationships, and opportunities across our district.

Because the Framework isn’t just about where CHUSD is going. It’s about the future we’re building together.

Built BY, WITH, & THROUGH Our Community

Whose vision is it? Ours.

One of the most important things to know about the Framework for the Future is how it was created.

This wasn't intended to be a plan developed behind closed doors and handed to our schools.

Beginning in December 2025, CHUSD partnered with Learner-Centered Collaborative and went directly to our campuses. Students, teachers, classified staff, families, and other educational partners were invited to talk about what is working, where we can grow, what CHUSD should stand for, and what they hope education in our communities can become.

Those conversations helped lead to the creation of our Guiding Coalition, bringing together voices from across CHUSD to turn that feedback into a shared direction for our district.

Different schools. Different roles. Different perspectives. One shared future.

That's what we mean when we say this work is being built By, With, & Through our CHUSD community.

Our North Star: Vision, Mission & Values

What guides the work? 🧭

Our Framework begins with three things: who we want to become, why we exist, and how we agree to get there.

Our Vision describes students who are engaged in authentic learning, empowered to make meaningful choices, resilient when they face challenges, and committed to strengthening their communities.

Our Mission keeps the whole learner at the center—academically, socially, and emotionally.

And five shared Values guide how we do the work:

Trust. Equity. Service. Collaboration. Accountability.

These aren't meant to be words that simply live on a page. They're intended to guide decisions, relationships, priorities, and how we serve students every day.

The destination matters. So does how we get there.
