Every student deserves to feel safe, welcomed, and supported at school. The reminders and resources below reflect our ongoing commitment to protecting students’ rights and maintaining a school community where all students can learn and thrive.
Coalinga-Huron Unified School District wants to reassure our families that school is still a safe place for all students. In California's public schools, the law requires the following be upheld:
1. Non-Discrimination: All students, including those who are undocumented or come from immigrant families, have the right to attend public school, participate in school activities, and receive a quality education without discrimination.
2. Safe School Environment: Schools are generally prohibited from voluntarily granting access to campus by immigration enforcement officers, in the absence of a judicial warrant or court order. Schools are prohibited from requesting social security numbers or inquiring about the citizenship or immigration status of students or their parents or guardians, unless explicitly required by law.
3. Confidentiality of Student Information: Schools must protect the privacy of their students. Schools are prohibited from sharing personal information about students or their family members for immigration-enforcement purposes without a court order or judicial subpoena.

Additionally, Coalinga-Huron Unified School District has support available to families through our community-based partners the California Farmworkers Foundation (https://californiafarmworkers.org/) and Education and Leadership Foundation (https://www.elfus.org/about) for additional case management and resources.

Our # CampusSafetyLiaisons have been on the lookout for more than just campus safety concerns… they’ve also been spotting staff members who go above and beyond to keep our students, colleagues, and campuses safe! 🚨👏
🎃 And guess what? They got BOO’D! 🎃
Some of our amazing staff members were surprised with a little treat and a special shout-out from their Campus Safety Liaison for being SAFETY-MINDED, LOOKING OUT FOR OTHERS, AND HELPING KEEP OUR CAMPUSES SAFE! 🦺✨

For Claudia Vosburg, all roads lead back to Coalinga—and all 21 years of her education career have been spent at #CHUSD!
Her journey began teaching middle school English before taking her to Cambridge High School, where she fell in love with Alternative Education. For the past five years, she has served as principal, overseeing Cambridge High School, Chesnut High School, Community Day School, Independent Study, Home Hospital, and Adult School. That’s quite a lineup, with plenty of opportunities to help students find their path!
Before stepping into the classroom, Claudia worked as a secretary for workers’ compensation companies and spent time working for the City of Coalinga. Each stop helped shape her commitment to serving others.
Born and raised in Coalinga, Claudia takes special pride in serving the community she calls home. As the mayor’s wife, she also sees how closely schools and city life are connected. Strong schools open doors, bring people together, and help the whole community thrive.
What keeps her heart firmly planted at CHUSD? The commitment and care of its students, staff, and community. Claudia believes Alternative Education offers a powerful opportunity to build meaningful relationships, help students recognize their potential, and support them as they become contributing members of their community.
Outside of school, her creativity takes center stage! Painting, drawing, crafting—if it involves art, Claudia is ready to jump in. She has even hosted “Paint Night” events for family and friends, bringing people together one brushstroke at a time. She also enjoys spending time with family and giving back through community events and volunteering.
Whether she’s helping students imagine their futures or filling a canvas with color, Claudia brings heart, creativity, and hometown pride to her work and community. 🎨🧡🖤

🍎 MONDAY, OCTOBER 12 - NO SCHOOL for students due to a staff inservice day. There will also be no Expanded Learning Program (ELP) that day. School resumes Tuesday, October 13.
⏰ FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16 - MINIMUM DAY for students as we wrap up the 1st quarter.
Please plan ahead for these schedule changes!
- Students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to enter and attend.
- Stay in the stands during the game and keep ramps, entrances, and walkways clear.
- When visiting the snack bar, return to your seat right away.
- Be respectful—no running around, cussing, or disruptive behavior.
Repeated violations will result in removal from the game. Thank you for helping keep game night safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Pedestrians and drivers both play an important role in keeping our streets safe. Before crossing, use marked crosswalks when available, obey pedestrian signals, watch for turning vehicles, and make sure approaching drivers see you and have enough time to stop.
Whether you’re behind the wheel, on a bike, or on foot: stay alert, stay aware, and look out for one another.
